Minnesota Rural Summit 2002: Linking
Health and Economic Development
 Minnesota
Rural Summit 2002: Linking Health and Economic Development, was held June
23-25th, 2002, in Duluth. This joint venture between Minnesota
Rural Partners, the Minnesota
Department of Healths Office of Rural Health and Primary Care
and the Minnesota Rural Health
Association provided an exciting opportunity to bring those concerned
about rural economic and community development together with those concerned
about rural health. Attendees learned about the economic impact of the
health care in their community and what it means to the economic vitality
and survival of the community. Rural stakeholders teamed up to identify
current and future solutions and to find ways to target local, state,
and federal resources.
The three days included interactive sessions, compact learning stations,
and extensive examination and identification of practical alternatives
to developing and implementing rural policy. Technology was an integral
part of the conference as the Internet is utilized to solicit discussion
and gather information on rural policy for communities, the state and
the nation. We are including a link to the Summit
brochure, as a resource for review of the summit.
